The heart behind the studio
Studio Hummingbird was co-founded by storyteller, educator, and musician Junko Johnson and songwriter and musician Skeeter Jaye.
Drawing on a lifelong love of children, history, nature, and music, they jointly create original worlds where families can discover something beautiful together. The Studio's stories celebrate curiosity, compassion, courage, and the small joys that stay with us.

What happens when five friendly monsters leave their spooky mansion for a night of Halloween fun? Meet Boney, the tap-dancing skeleton; Winky, a sweet and bashful cyclops; Wolfgang, a bighearted werewolf; Maddie Medusa, whose singing snakes are always ready to join the chorus; and Boo-Boo, a cheerful mummy whose bandages have a lively personality of their own.
Together, these wonderfully silly friends discover a town filled with music, games, laughter, and new companions. Beneath all the Halloween sparkle is a gentle message for every age: appearances can be deceiving, kindness opens doors, and sometimes the friend you have not met yet is simply waiting for someone to say hello.
Gather the family, put on your dancing shoes, and join the celebration. Watch Monsters Just Wanna Have Fun on YouTube—and share a little monster-sized joy with someone you love!

Studio Hummingbird's long-awaited Japanese samurai story will be released later this week! Inspired by a 450-year-old Japanese legend that continues to resonate with people today, Salt of Honor tells the remarkable story of the Sengoku warlord Uesugi Kenshin, who refused to use hunger as a weapon against his rival, Takeda Shingen.
When a salt embargo threatened the lives of countless people, Kenshin chose compassion over conquest, allowing precious salt to reach those in need. His decision became one of Japan's most enduring examples of righteousness and is traditionally associated with the proverb, translated into English as "sending salt to one's enemy"—a symbol of showing compassion even to a rival.
This original folk ballad celebrates honor, courage, mercy, and the timeless lesson that strength is often revealed through compassion rather than conquest. Watch Salt of Honor on YouTube and share this enduring story with someone you love.
